Brief

New website & logo design for director of London school of Flamenco

Client requested a complete revamp of both branding and logo design due to a business name change and premises. Previous website had been corrupted due to coding errors and the client was not able to retrieve back the website. Myself, the client and an SEO manager began to put together a new modern design where the client requested a booking page, mailing list automation, sign up sheets and a complete timetable.

  • Client had mentioned three main issues with the website:

    1. No sign up or mailing list automation.

    2. Previous design was outdated and did not follow a colour scheme.

    3. Users had reported that pages on their previous website when clicked always reverted back to the home page, leading to a corruptedand unsecure website. This impacted SEO and google search capabilities.

  • After various conversations it became apparent that there were 4 main areas to focus on:

    1. A clear sign up and location form with class timetables easily accessible throughout the website.

    2. A new clear branding strategy with a simple and modern design.

    3. Any other dedicated services to be shown on the website which included their JuergaWear Flamenco garmet shop & sister company in Spain.

    4. To boost SEO status and google search outsources for students to review the school via google as well as created a blog page with a bulletin board for students continously share with other members boosting view ratings.

    5. Separation of courses/workshops with the main class timetable due to the nature of changes being made to update the workshops. A dedicated page for this is crutial alongside a seperate sign up form.

    6. Conversations were made regarding having an online payment system, however the client inititally refused as she already has a dedicated online payment system which she prefers to have seperately to maintain class numbers.

  • To create a new modern and easily navivaget website.

User Discussions & Research

Research & Analysis

Prior to designing undestand the clients main clientelle was essential in the use of the website. To gain insight I attended some classes and interviewed students to gain an understanding and potential design ideas for the website. Some key information were as follows:

Demographic: Varied demographic of students between the ages of 4-80.

Use of Website: Currently the students do not utilise the website and rely on whatsap and facebook updates from the client and the team.

Workshop Bookings: Students reported utilising physical leadlets and whatsap to book places on courses.

Class Time tables: Students reported that the client sends out documments to the community whatsap for timetable updates. Students reported frequently losing the file on their mobile devices and would like to have an active online class time table.

Addtional Responses and suggestions:

Students reported that they would like to have the following:
1. Online viewed class timetable.
2. School updates.
3. Flamenco costume shopping.
4. Dedicated images and videos for their performances to share with outer audiences for their dance CV’s
5. Online subscription and booking.

01. Information Architecture

Design & Test

Based on 5 key featured from interviewing the students and the client I began to sketch out the architecture of the website that were relevant for the navigation of the site. As the school offers various classes for both adults and children it was important to create designated spaces for these. The homepage would have all the information for all these services with shortcut buttons to navigate towards what the user is looking for alongside a search bar. From the homepage both potential and current students are able to see highlighted and key information with the ability to open new pages with further information both accessed from the homepage and the navigation status bar.

02. Sketching & Client Feedback

Design & Test

A series os sketches dedicated towards five key user areas were presented to the client showcasing the following:

  1. Class Timetables/Classes with filters

  2. Childrens School

  3. Updates and notifications

  4. Socials and community images

  5. JuergaWear Shop

03. Wireframing & Responsive Design

Design & Test

A series of wireframes were demonstrted to the client where the client requested workshops remain a priority next to the notice boards. An addtional feature was to create two dedicated forms, one for enquiries and another for a class sign up sheet with selection boxes so the client is able to keep up with class numbers.

Due to most individuals utilising their phones to browse through the web, it was essential to create a responsive design for the client. To keep the design as continuous as possible, filters are used to categorised all classses and timetables which can be both used in mobile and web devices.

1) Responsive Web Design

1) Responsive Web Design - Mobile Design minor changes

Due to homepage showcasing the Flamenco schools services, shortcut buttons for adult and childrens classes are shown on the first point of flow, allowing users to navigate and scroll quickly to the desired area. The top navigation button in the mobile device has a removed search bar and instead a three dot icon is used instead. Addtionally a Top arrow button allowing the user to naviate to the navigation hamburger style menu was also added.

05. Branding & Identity

Design & Test

The branding and logo design was updated, however in keeping with the previous logo and websites colour scheme of red and black with simple iconography throughout the website to allow for the Flamenco Schools images to remain the focus of the website. The client addtionally asked for the logo to be viewed in business cards and merchendise.

06. Final Design and Feedback

Design & Test

Currently the website is being managed and updated regularly by myself and the SEO manager. The link provided may have been updated since the final design outputs. Due to the quick deadline as the client required a website within the week it was necessary to begin website building without high-fidelity mockups. Due to the loss of previous google search hierarchy it was also required to ask students to write google reviews alongside the SEO manager continously changing the copy of the website. Both the students and the client have reported positive feedback and use of the website.
